HIGHLIGHTS:

  • 315 - Roger Jimmo fixed our American Flag which had come off from the pole. Thank you: 2433 South Lincoln Road Lincoln

  • 3/18 – Brenda Lattrell came in to cover our paperback books with plastic to protect them. What would we do without such faithful volunteers?

  • 3/18 - Harriet Szanto has worked hard to bring the “Vermont Reads” and the national “Big Read” to our little Library by writing grants, etc. This past year we received several copies of the Vermont Reads book, The Day of the Pelican, by Barre,VT author Katherine Paterson from the Beeman School Librarian, Nancy Custer Carroll. She then told me about the Balkan exhibit at the Vermont Folklife Center which coordinates with the theme and I ordered it. Katherine Paterson will speak on April 11th at 1pm at the Lincoln Community School. The Robinson School in Starksboro will join us. Harriet set this up also. I would like to have a luncheon in her honor. She brings so much to our library. Would anyone like to help me? It could be out at a restaurant or a pot luck here…

  • 3/21 – Mark came in today and together we learned how to download an ebook and an audio book from our Library consortium. I brought my computer from home and my ipod and it worked! I also learned how to import library records from the Vermont Automated Library System (VALS) so that we don’t have to create records that we cannot find anywhere else.

  • 3/25 - Ian Freeman and his friend Lee came in to volunteer. They are going to come on Fridays for an hour to help us keep the shelves looking neat and tidy.

  • 3/25 – With the help of Logan Rotax and Nancy MacDonald we have shifted all of the picture books in the children’s area. Logan did the physical shifting and Nancy painstakingly labeled each shelf with a letter that stands for the first letter in the author’s last name. This will help so much with the shelving of books.

  • 3/25 - Meredith washed the front bead-board under the counter and will wash the rest so that it will all look better. However, she suggested that we paint next time, as paint was coming off when she washed it.

  • 3/30 - Andrew brought in the surveys. He entered all of them. He found one question on the survey that was not on the computer version, so they will have to be tallied by hand.

  • 3/30 – I met with an Americorps volunteer about offering a senior health program here. We are going to offer a “Chair Yoga” class.

  • 3/31 – I was excited to see an email from Linda Harmon of “The Inn at Mary’s” about her hosting a luncheon for the author visit by Katherine Paterson. Many years ago, Katherine visited the Deerleap Bookstore in Bristol and several of us (Librarians) had lunch with her at what was then “Mary’s Restaurant” in Bristol.

  • 4/4 - Grace Greene, the Vermont State Children’s Librarian called today to tell me that Andrew Rainville has won the video contest for the summer reading program. He wins $250 and we get $100!!!
