*10 people donated books for our book sale (which by-the-way is doing quite well!)

WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING:

7/13 - Suzie Wilmer weeded Susan’s Garden.  Thanks so much!

7/14 - Luke put the sign up in Susan’s garden.  He will also screw in the plaque mentioned below and will make us two shelves for the children’s area so that we can accommodate our growing picture book section.

7/14 - We received the plaque to go on the back of Susan’s bench in the garden which denotes that it was donated by members of her nursing class.  Her husband Don purchased it for us via the internet.

7/14 - Today the 5 Town Librarians hosted a program with naturalist, Mike Clough at the Bristol Elementary School.  The total attendance was 34 adults and 83 children!  It was sponsored with money from the Bristol Friends of the Arts.

7/14 -  I just found out last night that Lindsay McRae , who was heading up our drama program for children this summer had to leave for home in Canada unexpectedly.  I will be taking over the program and Marcia will cover the desk.

7/15 -  James Percocco, an author and history teacher, came to speak about his book, Summers with Lincoln.   We found out that our laptop does not have power point installed on it.  It was quite embarrassing.  I called Nancy Benz and she brought her laptop down for us to borrow.

7/30 - Brenda Lattrell volunteered today to cover paperbacks with plastic covering.  This is necessary for those books, such as Salinger reprints that only come in paperback.  She will come in when we need her.

7/30 - Held our first outdoor movie: “UP” and had almost 60 people sitting on chairs and blankets over in the children’s area.  It worked well there because it was still sunny at 8pm and there was some shade there.  Special thanks to Will Smith, Andrew Goodro, Lindsay Goodro and Adam Rainville who set up, sold food and cleaned up.

7/31 – Held our 10th Anniversary Celebration with 100+ people attending.  We started with a parade of book characters that went right to the Library.  Then we had a nice hot dog and pizza lunch.  Linda Norton was declared Librarian Emerita and given a pewter bowl from Danforth for her efforts in creating this beautiful facility.  We had a birthday cake for the Library, then relay races, a soccer game and face painting for the kids.  It was so much fun and a nice way to celebrate such an important event.  A member of our teen board, Adam Rainville, took photos and helped me put them on our website.

8/3 - Held our second 5-Town Library summer program for kids at the Bristol Elementary School.  We had almost 200 people in attendance for Bill Schontz and Jay Cook as they say funny and silly songs about water.  The kids participated and all had a great time.

8/7 - Held a “Pool Party” at the Library to celebrate the summer reading program theme: “Make a Splash – READ!” for the children.

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT:

*Fall building maintenance:  washing windows inside and out  (maybe just inside), weeding around apple trees,  rug shampooing.  Should I tell Meredith to wax the community room floor?

*Value of having a Newsletter vs. Website

*I’d like to hold some computer classes this fall.
